Key CRN Design Requirements for Pressure Vessels, Boilers & Heat Exchangers

1. Service Classification

Specify whether the equipment is intended for lethal or non-lethal service according to ASME code definitions. This classification affects material selection, joint efficiency, testing, and design safety factors.

2. Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP)

Define the design pressure (or MAWP) used for engineering calculations. This value establishes the minimum required thickness and determines hydrotest requirements.

3. Design Temperature Range

Provide both maximum and minimum design temperatures based on operating conditions. These values influence material properties, impact testing, corrosion allowances, and overall code compliance.

4. Applicable Design Codes & Standards

Identify the governing design code (ASME Section VIII Div.1 or Div.2) along with the edition and any referenced standards used in calculations, fabrication, and inspection.

5. Material Specifications

List all materials used in the pressure boundary, including ASTM/ASME specifications, grade or class, and any special properties required for service conditions.

6. Material Thickness

10. Post Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT)

Indicate whether PWHT is required. Include: Temperature Holding time Applicable code sections PWHT affects toughness, stress relief, and compliance.

11. Impact Testing Requirements

Provide impact test data or justification for exemption, especially for low-temperature applications where toughness is critical.

12. Pressure Testing

Define the hydrostatic or pneumatic test pressure and the test temperature as required by ASME and CSA B51.

13. Special Service Conditions
